Frame Styles in late 18th Century Europe and America were affected by a general revival of classicism stimulated by the discoveries at Herculaneum and Pompeii. Under Louis XVI (1774-1793) simplicity of design was the rule, with a lamb's tongue or bead often the only embellishment on an otherwise plain moulding.
